Practical GIS help from someone who speaks ArcGIS.

North Fork GIS is a small consulting practice in the Twin Cities. I audit ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Online sites, build custom Experience Builder widgets, and automate the GIS chores that eat up your week. You'll work with me directly the whole way.

Sound familiar?

01 · Web AppBuilder

An old app you need to move

Esri retired Web AppBuilder from ArcGIS Online and is phasing it out of Enterprise. Custom widgets don't convert on their own. I rebuild them for Experience Builder so they keep working the way your team expects.

02 · Busywork

Chores that eat your week

Exports, layer updates, reports, syncing field data back to the office. If someone does it by hand every week, there's a good chance a script can do it instead, and I'll tell you honestly if it can't.

03 · Audits

Not sure what you're running, or paying for

Credits draining faster than expected, storage bills creeping up, services nobody remembers publishing, content shared wider than anyone meant. An audit shows you where things stand and what to fix first.

Services

What I can help with

Everything here runs on a GIS platform you already have, with no new licenses needed. Each project starts with a simple question: what's the most useful thing I can do for your team?

ArcGIS Server & Online audits

A careful look at what you're running: what's exposed, what's slow, and what's quietly costing you credits. You get a plain-English report with fixes ranked by impact.

  • Security review
  • Performance & efficiency
  • Credit & storage costs
  • Content clean-up

Experience Builder widgets

Custom widgets for the things Esri's library doesn't do: data-bound query panels, custom editing tools, reports, or connections to your other systems.

  • React & TypeScript
  • Jimu framework
  • Settings panels
  • Online or Enterprise

Web AppBuilder migration

Your custom Web AppBuilder widgets, rebuilt for Experience Builder. I start by checking what you have, then rebuild with side-by-side testing so nothing gets lost on the way over.

  • Dojo → React
  • Gap assessment
  • Side-by-side testing
  • Phased moves

Python & workflow automation

I find the manual steps that eat your team's time and replace them with scripts that run on their own. That covers ArcPy, the ArcGIS API for Python, and ModelBuilder models turned into maintainable code.

  • ArcPy
  • ArcGIS API for Python
  • Scheduled pipelines
  • Logging & alerts

AI-assisted workflows

I use AI where it actually saves time and skip it where it doesn't. That can mean drafting reports from live feature data, classifying messy records, or flagging odd values in field data.

  • Report drafting
  • Classification
  • QA/QC checks
  • Honest scoping

ArcGIS Enterprise & infrastructure

I plan, deploy and tune ArcGIS Enterprise environments, from a single machine to federated setups. Everything comes with documentation so your team isn't left guessing.

  • Architecture & deployment
  • Federated servers
  • Performance tuning
  • Runbooks

NG911 & data migration

Standards-based data work for Next Generation 911 and geodatabase moves: validated, documented, and coordinated with everyone involved.

  • NG911 GIS standards
  • ETL & migration
  • Validation & QA
  • PSAP coordination

Large-format & custom maps

Wall maps and printed maps built to last, on polypropylene or Tyvek. They work for field crews, public display, emergency management, or the conference room.

  • Custom symbology
  • Large-format printing
  • Weather-resistant
Recent work

A few things I've worked on lately

Not every project can be shown publicly, so the examples below use sample data or have details blurred. If one sounds like your situation, ask me and I'm happy to walk you through similar work on a call.

Spreadsheet from an ArcGIS Server permissions audit: each folder and service with whether it is secured, which groups have access, suggested groups to add or remove, and whether it is public. Several utility and public safety services are flagged as public.

ArcGIS Server & Online audits

Every folder, service, role and user gets checked, with the result in a workbook you can sort and filter. In this sample, a few water and public safety layers turned out to be open to anyone, and a leftover contractor account still had access.

  • Security: public services, roles, users and settings
  • Performance and efficiency: slow, stopped and unused services
  • ArcGIS Online: credit and token use, storage costs and sharing
  • Suggested fixes you can review, then apply in one pass

Soil Analysis widget in ArcGIS Experience Builder: a soil map with a drawn study area beside a panel with a soil composition pie chart and a table of soil types, acreage and percent

Soil Analysis

Draw a polygon on the map, and the widget shows which soils are inside it and how many acres of each. What used to mean clipping layers and building a table by hand now takes a few seconds with on the fly report generation.

  • Soil composition chart with hover details
  • Hydric rating, hydrologic group, acres and percent
  • Configured without code, printed in one click

Customer Management

A prospecting and customer tool catered toward your business. We maps millions of parcels so the team can build targeted marketing lists and track each property from prospect to customer.

  • Marketing lists: recent sales, new construction, neighbors of customers
  • Lasso, GPS and search to select parcels, then export to Excel
  • Built-in CRM: status, install years, services and notes
  • Next.js

About

A one-person shop, right here in Minnesota.

My background covers GIS infrastructure, Python scripting, web development and Esri platform administration. Over time the work settled into one thing: helping organizations do more with the tools they already pay for.

Being small means you always talk to the person doing the work.

"GIS is about bringing people closer to their data — enabling individuals and organizations to have greater access to their data by making it accessible to whomever, however, and wherever they need it."

The idea behind North Fork GIS

You work with me

There are no account managers and no hand-offs. The person on your call is the person writing your code.

No surprises

You'll get a clear scope and price up front, and regular check-ins while I work. Nothing is a black box.

Built to hand off

Everything comes with documentation and source code. The goal is something your team can run without needing me forever.

ArcGIS all the way down

GIS is all I do, from Enterprise setup to Experience Builder's internals. You won't have to explain what a feature service is.

AI with good sense

If AI can genuinely save you time, I'll show you where and scope it clearly. If it can't, I'll say so.

Local when it helps

I'm based in Minneapolis–Saint Paul and happy to meet in person. Remote works just as well.

How a project goes

The route from here to done

Step 01

Talk it through

We look at your current setup and what's slowing you down. You come away with a clear idea of what I'd build and what it's worth to you.

Step 02

Plan it

Sketches, wireframes or a workflow diagram, whatever fits the job. You approve the plan before I write production code.

Step 03

Build it

I share working pieces along the way, not just at the end. Problems get caught early and changes stay cheap.

Step 04

Hand it off

I deploy and test in your environment, then write up plain-English documentation so your team can run it independently.

Get in touch

Tell me what you're working on.

A Web AppBuilder deadline, a widget idea, a chore you'd love to automate, or just "is this possible?" All of those are good reasons to reach out.
